Job summary

City of Winston-Salem, NC seeks a journeyman-level mechanic to diagnose and complete major repairs on diesel vehicles and heavy equipment. You will perform preventive maintenance, prep vehicles for service, and restore critical systems such as air conditioning and brakes.

Requires two years in automotive repair, four ASE certificates within two years, a CDL within 12 months, and a full set of tools. High school diploma or GED preferred with additional training welcome.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in automotive repair.
• Four ASE certificates to be obtained within two years of employment.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License within 12 months of employment.
• Must have complete set of mechanics hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Performs journeyman level mechanical work and diagnoses complex major repairs on diesel vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Completes preventative maintenance services and tune ups, and prepares vehicles for service.
• Repairs air conditioning systems and major brake systems, following safety policies and procedures.
• Maintains safe work zones and adheres to applicable safety policies and procedures.
