Job summary

City of Winston-Salem is seeking a journeyman level mechanic to diagnose and repair diesel vehicles, including medium to large trucks and construction equipment. The role requires completion of complex repairs and adherence to safety policies.

Candidates should have two years of automotive repair experience, 4 ASE certificates within 2 years, and a CDL within 12 months. A complete set of hand tools is expected.

Qualifications

• Two years' experience in the repair of automotive equipment.
• Completion of 10 training courses in automotive repair from a community college, vocational school, or automotive dealer/retailer, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Four ASE certificates must be obtained within two years of employment.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License within 12 months of employment.
• Must have complete set of mechanics hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Performs journeyman level mechanical work and diagnostics.
• Completes complicated major repairs requiring significant mechanical knowledge and skill.
• Repairs diesel vehicles and medium to large trucks and off-road construction equipment.
• Maintains safe work zones and follows safety policies.
