Job summary

Pearson is seeking a lead editor in Jefferson City to drive high‑quality educational assessments and editorial integrity. You will supervise cross‑functional workflows, ensure compliance with client style guides, and mentor junior editors in a fast-paced publishing environment.

The role requires strong copyediting skills, familiarity with CMS workflows, and ability to work with AI‑assisted content while maintaining rigorous quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent training.
• At least three years of editorial experience and two years in educational assessment.
• Strong copyediting across spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage.
• Familiarity with major style guides (Chicago Manual of Style, Gregg Reference Manual, Garner’s Modern English Usage).
• Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and MS Office 365 apps.

Responsibilities

• Implements grammar, spelling, usage, punctuation, syntax, and style per department, client, and industry standards; applies rules consistently.
• Ensures uniformity and consistency across assessment components; identifies errors throughout the workday.
• Queries deviations from client style and may create/modify client style guidelines.
• Understands copyeditor’s scope of responsibility, knows what to do when requested to go beyond scope, and flags concerns when needed.
• Proactively seeks learning opportunities to strengthen editorial expertise by refining skills and expanding knowledge of style guides.
