Job summary

Fowler Care Center is seeking an experienced cook to prepare meals in a long-term care setting. You will follow planned menus and standardized recipes, ensure safe handling practices, and assist with ordering and storage to maintain food quality.

Responsibilities include reviewing menus and census data, preparing diet-appropriate foods, and maintaining cleanliness and proper temperatures. A high school diploma is preferred and prior LTC cooking is a plus.

Qualifications

• Two years as cook in a large-scale operation.
• One year’s work experience in long term care preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meal items according to planned menus and standardized recipes; refers to supervisor or dietitian the need for menu changes.
• Reviews menus, census information, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared.
• Prepares food according to safe food handling guidelines per policy and state/federal codes.
• Assist with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated by the supervisor; prepare food in a timely manner to preserve quality and serve on time.
• Maintains standards for food preparation and quality; uses nutrition substitutes when required; follows recipes.
• Operates kitchen utensils and equipment such as blenders, mixers, slicers, steamers, processors, ovens, ranges; bakes, roasts, broils, steams items.
• Prepares diet foods and assists with special function meals.
• Washes/peels/cuts vegetables and fruits; slices meat and weighs for compliance and nutrition accuracy.
• Prepares and serves food attractively; tests palatability by tasting; monitors temperatures.
• Makes and records menu changes under supervisor; uses substitutes when required and refers to supervisor for approval.
• Follows cleaning schedule; cleans equipment and work area; maintains safe handling and storage; ensures correct temperatures.
