Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive computer vision and perception developments for defense and commercial uses in the LEAP group of AV’s MacCready Works. You will mentor engineers and lead the implementation on low-SWaP platforms and integration with unmanned systems.

The role emphasizes strong C++ skills, embedded processing experience, and collaboration with stakeholders to deliver robust, tested software for field deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, or Physics or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 8–12 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in C++ and knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and OO programming.
• Experience with build systems such as CMake and Linux tooling.

Responsibilities

• Implement and optimize computer vision and perception algorithms in C++ for embedded processors (low-SWaP).
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership.
• Develop documentation, reports, and customer-facing materials.
• Write unit tests and ensure software quality per process guidelines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external developers.
