Job summary

NRG Energy seeks an Operations Technician to perform day-to-day plant operations, including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation tasks. You will monitor performance, identify issues, and lead tests on equipment while guiding less experienced staff.

The role requires standing, lifting and on-call readiness and a strong safety mindset. You will work with management to plan outages, optimize budgets, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with basic computer literacy.
• Three years of related work experience in power plant operations.
• Successful completion of applicable pre-employment tests and background checks.
• Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Start-up, operate, shutdown and secure equipment from control room or field.
• Troubleshoot and perform artisan-level mechanical tasks and alignments.
• Inspect facility machinery for faults and document operating conditions.
• Maintain logs and report irregularities; monitor safety and environmental standards.
• Coordinate maintenance planning and scheduling; support outages and budgets.
