Job summary

WVU Healthcare is seeking a Coding Education and Audit Lead to educate and train coding staff, oversee auditing programs, and develop comprehensive education plans for the coding team. The role requires expertise in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, MS-DRG, HCC and APR-DRG, with prior supervisory or project management experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field.
• Certification in RHIA, RHIT, COC, CCS, or CPC is required or preferred.
• Extensive coding experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, MS-DRG, HCC and APR-DRG knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Manages training activities for WVU Healthcare coding staff.
• Oversees quality improvement audits and staff education.
• Acts as expert coding resource to coders, providers, and departments.
• Updates EMR-related policies and provides staff in-services.
• Develops and maintains coding-related policies, procedures, and training materials.
• Communicates with Coding Leadership about activities and audits.
• Organizes, tracks, and reports on internal quality reviews.
• Designs and uses audit tools to monitor coding accuracy and gaps.
• Coordinates external audits, liaises with agencies, and prepares final reports.
• Coordinates denial reviews and assists with appeals.
• Ensures compliance updates and coding changes are implemented.
• On-boards new Coding Specialists regarding policies and audits.
• Keeps abreast of coding changes and regulatory updates.
• May develop curriculum for WVU Healthcare Coding Certificate Program.
