Job summary

SYSTEM West Virginia University Health System seeks a Senior Medical Coding Supervisor to lead hospital coding teams and ensure compliant, efficient revenue cycle operations across clinics and hospitals. You will guide auditing, education and policy development while aligning with federal and state requirements.

The role requires extensive ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and MS-DRG knowledge, supervisory experience, and strong communication. Travel may be required; onsite work is typical in this position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current HIM/coding certification (AHIMA or AAPC).
• 5 years of medical coding experience required.
• AS/BA in HIM or related field preferred for advanced roles.

Responsibilities

• Supervise coding staff and assist management in reimbursement, coding, abstracting, productivity, quality and education.
• Ensure coding backlogs, work queues and charge lag remain at acceptable levels.
• Serve as expert coding resource to coders, providers, revenue cycle and specialty groups.
• Manage personnel including interviewing, hiring, coaching and performance evaluations with management.
• Develop and maintain coding policies, procedures, and training materials with management.
