Job summary

The City of Idaho Falls is seeking a licensed Civil Engineer to lead the engineering division, planning, directing, and coordinating city projects including water, sewer, and street infrastructure.

The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering, 8 years of licensed municipal experience, and a Idaho Professional Engineer license, with strong project management and communication skills. Office-based with travel to project sites and meetings.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Civil Engineering and 8 years licensed municipal experience.
• Strong design, survey, inspection and traffic control knowledge; budget and project management.
• Must hold Idaho Professional Engineer license and a valid Idaho driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the engineering division; develop operational strategies and implement approved changes.
• Provide technical guidance to Mayor, Council, and department heads on projects requiring engineering oversight; assist in capital improvement planning and budgeting.
• Attend public meetings; present project goals, costs, alternatives, environmental impact, and traffic implications.
• Review plans for compliance with city standards; coordinate with other departments and developers within public rights-of-way.
• Review annexation and development agreements to ensure engineering standards are met and water/sewer/street service is feasible.
• Attend pre-project planning meetings and coordinate with boards and commissions; provide professional recommendations on developments.
• Provide testimony or depositions as needed and respond to inquiries regarding engineering projects.
