Job summary

1X is building a scalable brain for home humanoid robots. The Foundations team owns core C++ infrastructure, sensor pipelines, motor control interfaces, and IPC layers that power perception, planning, and actuation across thousands of robots in homes and warehouses.

The role emphasizes fast, deterministic, and reliable software at scale, with emphasis on latency budgets, profiling, and clean interfaces that other engineers can build upon.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years shipping production C++ in performance-critical systems: robotics, autonomous vehicles, HPC, or related fields.
  • Proven ability to profile, benchmark, and debug at the systems level (flamegraphs, perf counters, assembly).
  • Experience writing clean interfaces with minimal dependencies and deterministic behavior under load.

Responsibilities

  • Own the foundational C++ infrastructure that the NEO brain and nervous system depend on, ensuring speed, determinism, and reliability as scale grows.
  • Improve real-time sensor pipelines, motor control loops, and IPC layers to support other teams.
  • Develop and maintain lock-free IPC/serialization layers with clear interfaces for downstream engineers.
  • Produce performance benchmarks, tooling, and regression tracking to prevent latency drift in production.
