Job summary

1X in San Carlos, CA is seeking a senior backend architect to design scalable backends for real-time robot control and fleet management. You will lead architecture decisions, build core components, and set the technical standards as the organization scales from hundreds to tens of thousands of deployed robots.

You will mentor engineers, own production systems, and ensure reliability, performance, and simplicity in a fast-moving robotics company focused on practical, real-world AI and hardware

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years leading production teams.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud architecture, APIs, and real-time data pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or C++, with a track record of scalable, high-performance systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship scalable backend systems for real-time robot control, data pipelines, and fleet monitoring as scale grows.
• Own and deliver customer-facing applications for robot control and monitoring with high reliability.
• Build internal platforms supporting logistics, manufacturing, and service operations with actionable data tooling.
• Set technical direction, establish reliability standards, and mentor engineers through reviews and architecture decisions.
