Job summary

1X is seeking a Senior Robotics Controls Engineer to advance the real-time software stack for humanoid robots. You will push low‑level motor control through full‑body dynamic estimation, building robust, safe software abstractions that bridge hardware and AI.

You’ll own core control and state estimation modules, calibrate actuators, and contribute to reliability tooling as we scale from R&D to production. Ambition, rigor, and hands‑on robotics experience are essential to excel.

Qualifications

• Strong theoretical and applied understanding of rigid body dynamics, linear algebra, and numerical optimization.
• Proven ability to implement optimization-based whole-body control, EKF-based state estimation, or model predictive control for legged systems.
• High proficiency in writing clean, production-ready C++ within a Linux development environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop the real-time software stack that enables humanoid robots to move, balance, and manipulate the world with precision and reliability.
• Design and deploy fast, efficient state estimation systems and control algorithms for balancing, locomotion, and manipulation.
• Make complex, high-DOF hardware accessible through clean, efficient software abstractions and APIs for higher-level AI systems.
• Perform system identification and calibration of actuators, transmissions, and full-body kinematics.
• Build robust software and tools for hardware bring-up, debugging, health monitoring, visualization, and logging.
