Job summary

San Bernardino County Fire Department is seeking a Supervising Building and Safety Engineer in the Land Use Services Department to lead a team of professionals, technicians, and clerical staff in plan reviews, permit processing, and code interpretations. You will report to the Building Official and help maintain high standards of service and safety.

The position emphasizes staff leadership, workload management, evaluations, hiring decisions, and adherence to California Building Standards Code

Qualifications

Must hold a registered Professional Civil or Structural Engineer license in California.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
Three years of progressively responsible experience in complex building plan review in a public jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

Review plan check reports for deficiencies.
Assist in resolving conflicts with builders on code interpretations.
Answer public inquiries by phone, email, or in person about permit process.
Review and allocate staff workload; track permits and reviews.
Prepare and sign performance evaluations; participate in hiring decisions; recommend disciplinary actions.
