Job summary

Frederick County Government seeks a skilled professional to lead the building plans review process, ensuring code compliance for County and State regulations. The role includes mentoring staff, reviewing construction documents, and coordinating with other agencies.

You will conduct complex technical reviews, perform on-site inspections, and maintain updated knowledge of codes. A masterful candidate will possess leadership, communication, and planning abilities and hold ICC certification.

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction or Business Management, or a related field; 5 years of work experience in building or city plans review; 2 years of lead or supervisory work experience; ICC Building Plans Examiner certification.
• Substitutions: Master’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction or Business Management with 3 years of relevant experience may meet requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage the plans, policies and daily workload for building plans review to ensure accurate, predictable, and timely services are provided.
• Enforce County and State Building Code regulations by reviewing and evaluating construction documents and plans.
• Supervise staff involved in building plan review, education, and support services for the office.
• Review and approve building construction drawings, site plans and other documents for compliance with codes.
• Perform complex technical reviews and provide comments using electronic plan review software and calculations.
• Coordinate with other County agencies and perform on-site inspections to verify compliance.
