Job summary

Civil Recruit is seeking a Building Engineer to supervise maintenance staff and contractors across corporate campuses in the United States. The role focuses on keeping mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building systems safe, efficient, and compliant with codes, while managing preventive maintenance and emergency responses.

You will oversee service contractors, coordinate repairs, and contribute to energy management and safety programs at multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of building engineer or lead technician experience in commercial facilities.
• Ability to read electrical, plumbing, and mechanical drawings and know building/electrical codes.
• Valid driver’s license; flexible shifts including emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Supervise 1–2 in-house maintenance technicians and multiple trade contractors in daily maintenance and project work.
• Perform maintenance and repair on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and control systems across owned/leased properties.
• Respond to emergency calls during off-hours when safety or critical systems are at risk.
• Identify problems, recommend solutions, and ensure equipment operates within manufacturer parameters.
• Order parts and manage stock for future needs; maintain CMMS data and KPI reporting.
• Assist in developing and executing testing/inspection checklists and quality control for contractor work.
• Support energy management and preventive maintenance programs; prepare statements of work and cost estimates.
