Job summary

The high school head coach at Marana Unified School District, under the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA), leads the sport program by coordinating, planning, evaluating, and implementing development activities for student athletes within NFHS and district rules.

The role requires leadership, integrity, responsibility, and knowledge of sport rules; coaches must model health, organize tryouts and practices, manage staff, ensure safety, communicate with families, and foster sportsmanship

Qualifications

• Experience coaching assigned sport
• Exceptional communication skills with students and parents, and the ability to work with people who have a variety of skills, backgrounds, and temperaments
• Must possess a patient, positive and proactive attitude in dealing with students and parents
• Current CPR/First Aid Certification
• Successful completion of the online NFHS Concussions in Sports
• A valid Arizona Teaching certificate or completion of the NFHS online courses: Fundamentals of Coaching
• A valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

Responsibilities

• Manages development of the sports program at all levels for continuity and growth
• Select, train, and manage additional coaches (paid and volunteer)
• Maintains inventory of sporting equipment and supplies
• Works with administrators, purchasing staff, and vendors to procure equipment
• Communicates expectations to teams and families at season start
• Organizes try-outs, practice plans, and game plans with coaching staff
• Assesses playing surfaces and environment for player safety
• Complies with district and school procedures
• Applies sport knowledge to develop players across abilities
• Promotes high behavioral and academic standards
• Encourages skill development year-round
• Represents the program positively in the community
• Respects officials and manages bench personnel
• Fulfills responsibilities to provide health services and safety
• Implements health and safety standards and first aid when needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
