The Lead Billing Specialist oversees the design and implementation of efficient billing procedures and processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. This role manages monthly invoicing including generating invoices, reconciling accounts, and resolving discrepancies. Additionally, the Lead Billing Specialist maintains accurate records, delivers exceptional customer service to internal and external clients, and collaborates with Accounting teams and Account Managers to ensure proper financial transaction recording and prompt issue resolution. Serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), this role also supports the training and development of future Billing Specialists. This position is critical to maintaining the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

  • Manage weekly invoices including financial computations, invoice creation and processing
  • Processes supplier information and generates supplier invoices to facilitate reverse billing
  • Establishes policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing records
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures

Process Improvement & Reporting – 25%

  • Develop billing procedures and processes to enhance accuracy and business efficiency
  • Partner with Account Managers to resolve processing issues and recommend improvements
  • Prepares ad-hoc reporting
  • Present data and statistical analysis for Accounting leadership

SME and Informal Mentor to Billing Specialists - 15%

  • Serves as SME for, designs, evaluates, and enhances billing procedures and processes
  • Maintains the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the team
  • Mentors and assists in training of the team
  • Serves as a resource to the team and assists others with problem solving
  • Acts as a role model and go-to associate for Billing Specialists
  • Serves as point of contact to streamline communications and processes across departments
  • Manages distribution of work to team to ensure balanced workflow as team grows
  • Supports the application of payments and refunds
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue payments.
  • Conduct detailed account reconciliations to ensure proper payment processing
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex billing issues and resolve disputes or discrepancies

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS (IF APPLICABLE)

  • May work on special projects or other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY/BUDGETARY/EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION RESPONSIBILITY

  • May communicate with external clients, clinicians, or providers

QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
  • 4+ years of billing experience within the healthcare industry is required
  • Previous healthcare billing experience for locums required
