Job summary

Healthie is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Billing & Payments in New York City. You will lead the architecture for a new billing platform, owning data models, backend services, GraphQL APIs, and the React/TypeScript experiences on top.

This greenfield effort sits inside a Rails monolith relied upon by 40,000+ providers. You will set technical direction, partner with Product and Design, mentor engineers, and ensure correctness in financial workflows with strong testing and observability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building and shipping production systems across the full stack.
• Strong expertise in Ruby, React, TypeScript, and GraphQL.
• Experience designing backend services, APIs, and data models for high-scale apps.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of the new billing platform, from architecture through launch.
• Make and document key technical decisions: data modeling, payment flows, reconciliation.
• Build across the stack in Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, React, and TypeScript.
• Set the bar for correctness in financial workflows: testing, observability, auditability.
• Run design reviews and mentor engineers on the team.
• Partner with Product and Design to translate complex billing requirements into scope.
