Job summary

Ladders is seeking a Lead Back End Architect/Engineer to drive the evolution of our back-end architecture and data model in a regulated, data-driven environment. You will partner with frontend leadership, DevOps, and data science to strengthen API contracts and improve reliability.

This is a hands-on leadership role demanding technical depth and strong people leadership, with remote US-based placement.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in back-end or full-stack engineering with 2+ years leading a team.
• Experience with data models and access patterns for a B2B/enterprise product at scale.
• Experience collaborating with data science or ML teams to deploy models in production.

Job description

For our client, we are seeking a Lead Back End Architect/Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech space.

This role will own the evolution of the back-end architecture and data model as the platform scales in a regulated, data-driven environment. The person in this position will partner closely with front-end leadership, DevOps, and data science teams to strengthen API contracts, improve reliability, and support production implementation of models and features. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who can combine technical depth with team development and strong code quality standards.

Location: Remote – US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available.

Compensation: $175,000 – $200,000 annually.

Responsibilities

• Lead the application data model and its evolution as the product scales
• Drive integration contracts with the data warehouse to optimize data flow
• Define API contracts collaboratively with front-end leadership
• Direct the reliability and performance of back-end services, coordinating with DevOps
• Partner with data science to implement models and features on the platform
• Recruit and manage a team of back-end and data engineers to uphold code quality standards
• Support team coding standards and investment in development tools

Qualifications

• 8+ years in back-end or full-stack engineering, including 2+ years leading a team
• Experience with data models and access patterns for a B2B or enterprise product at scale
• Track record of hiring and developing engineering talent, including interview processes
• Comfortable with AI-assisted coding review and directing quality control processes
• Experience collaborating with data science or ML teams to implement models in production
• Skilled in defining and maintaining API contracts across teams
• Experience in regulated marketing data environments is a plus
