Job summary

Metropolis Technologies seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Recognition Platform, to own the Metropolis Recognition Platform (MRP). You’ll guide architecture across edge to cloud, collaborating with application, CV/ML, data, security, and platform teams while driving real‑time decisioning and scalable pipelines.

You’ll help establish RFCs, set technical direction, and lead cross‑functional efforts to deliver high‑volume, reliable systems with strong privacy and compliance considerations.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience building and operating distributed, data‑intensive production systems.
• Proven cross‑functional technical leadership and shared architecture alignment.
• Deep JVM proficiency in Java or Scala and event‑driven design with gRPC/protobuf.
• Hands‑on experience with high‑throughput ingestion pipelines, latency and backpressure.
• Experience with rules/decisioning systems and model-driven signals.

Responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end architecture across edge ingestion, identity resolution, decisioning, notification, and surfaces.
• Drive cross‑functional alignment across application, CV/ML, data, security, and platform teams.
• Evolve high‑volume edge‑to‑cloud pipelines with tail latency considerations.
• Design rules and decisioning layers for real‑time actions and gating.
• Balance deterministic logic with probabilistic signals and thresholds.
• Architect privacy, identity, and consent models with Legal and Security.
• Own production quality with SLOs, runbooks, and progressive rollout.
• Elevate engineering standards through reviews and AI‑native workflows.
