Job summary

Metropolis Technologies is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Recognition Platform to own the Technical direction of the Metropolis Recognition Platform (MRP). You will guide architectural decisions across edge-to-cloud pipelines and real-time decisioning, collaborating with application engineering, computer vision, data, security, and platform teams as well as partners.

You will shape the technical direction, RFCs, and alignment while maintaining hands-on leadership across high-volume

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience building and operating distributed, data-intensive production systems.
• Proven cross-functional technical leadership coordinating multiple engineering teams.
• Proficient in JVM languages (Java/Scala) and event-driven design (gRPC/Protobuf, streaming).
• Hands-on design of high-throughput ingestion pipelines with careful attention to delivery semantics and tail latency.
• Experience building rules, eligibility, or decisioning systems with deterministic and probabilistic signals.
• Strong systems judgment integrating APIs, SDKs, and vendor constraints.
• Excellent written communication with RFC experience.
• Ability to navigate hardware constraints and operational environments beyond staging.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end architecture across edge ingestion, identity resolution, decisioning, notification, and operator surfaces.
• Drive cross-functional alignment across engineering teams and external partners.
• Evolve high-volume edge-to-cloud streaming pipelines with scalable backbones and low latency.
• Design rules and decisioning layers for real-time actions (watchlists, routing, eligibility).
• Balance deterministic logic with probabilistic signals; define thresholds and cost reasoning.
• Architect privacy, identity, and consent models with Legal and Security.
• Own production quality with SLOs, alerts, runbooks, and progressive rollout via feature flags.
• Elevate technical standards through design/code reviews and mentorship.
