Metropolis Technologies in Seattle is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer, Edge to design and build scalable backend systems that integrate hardware with ML, using AWS, Java, Scala, gRPC, Redis, MySQL, Kubernetes and Kafka.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of backend development experience.
• Experience building gRPC APIs for service-to-service communication.
• Strong SQL / database design with Redis and MySQL.
• Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration.
• Hands-on Kafka for event-driven architectures.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Build robust, scalable backend services in Java and Scala.
• Design and implement gRPC APIs for high-performance data transfer.
• Leverage Redis and MySQL for reliable storage and low latency.
• Deploy and manage microservices on Kubernetes.
• Work with Kafka to enable real-time data streaming.
• Collaborate with Hardware, ML, and Ops teams to ensure integration.
• Identify bottlenecks and improve scalability and reliability.
