Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Team Lead for Android Core Product in Arlington, VA. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will write code, review code, and own core features while guiding the team on the best approach and priority.

You will collaborate with Design and QA to deliver reliable features, mentor engineers, and drive a high-quality Android experience. remote-friendly, fast delivery culture, and strong focus on user-centric UI.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with team leadership or ownership of a major surface while staying hands-on.
• Strong Kotlin expertise and Android platform knowledge across architecture patterns and UI.
• Experience shipping and maintaining background tasks for audio or other long-running work.
• Emphasis on testing strategy and test coverage to ensure reliability.
• Proven ability to mentor teammates and drive alignment across Product/Design/Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, from design through release, in close collaboration with design.
• Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests and provide meaningful feedback beyond approval.
• Unblock the team and ensure work is prioritized for decisions.
• Shift verification left and automate nightly QA checks where possible.
• Plan effectively so the team focuses on ambiguous work needing decisions.
• Mentor junior engineers and help them grow their skills.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to surface constraints early.
