Job summary

West Star Aviation in East Alton, IL, is seeking a Lead Aircraft Maintenance Technician to lead a team of technicians, ensure high-quality work, and drive efficient project flow.

The role requires strong problem-solving and communication skills, hands-on aircraft maintenance expertise, and adherence to FAA guidelines. Experience with leadership and mentoring is preferred, with a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in aviation maintenance preferred.
• 4+ years in program specific airframes.
• Minimal supervision; leads small groups in daily tasks.
• Subject matter experts with broad knowledge of the job.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team to complete the necessary jobs/tasks with sound judgement.
• Implement a strong turnover of work to the next shift.
• Reduce turn time of aircraft within area of responsibility.
• Train/mentor technicians assigned to projects.
• Supervise team members in daily workload and quality.
• Work independently on multiple projects; manage schedules and quality.
• Perform general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems.
• Troubleshoot/evaluate systems on the aircraft when designated.
• Inspect/evaluate aircraft and components when designated.
• Coordinate aircraft movement, performance runs and taxiing as needed.
• Maintain shop facility, equipment and tooling.
• Communicate with customers in project management, pricing and support roles.
