Job summary

Abbott in Illinois is seeking a hands-on software engineering leader to build production-grade agentic systems on the enterprise AI Platform. This director-mapped role begins as a player-coach, leading delivery and technical standards while growing and managing a team of 3–8 engineers.

You will design, implement, and operate agentic systems with durable workflows, context-engineering, and robust failure containment.

Qualifications

• 10-15+ years of software engineering leadership and delivery.
• Hands-on in agentic or LLM-based production apps.
• Strong knowledge of agent architecture and durability.
• Proficient in Python and at least one of TS/Go/Java.
• Experience defining measurable quality, safety, and cost indicators.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate production agentic systems.
• Build durable, resumable workflows with state and idempotency.
• Engineer tool integrations with Abbott enterprise systems.
• Lead technical discovery and delivery with AI Product Managers, Platform Engineering, security, and stakeholders.
• Hire, coach, and develop a team of 3-8 engineers.
