Job summary

Raytheon in Tucson is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead design, analysis, and testing of aerospace mechanisms and structures onsite. You will coordinate multi-product engineering activities, mentor engineers, and work with suppliers and Raytheon factory operations to meet cost and schedule goals.

The role requires strong CAD skills, systems integration experience, and the ability to manage budgets, risks, and program reviews while delivering compliant hardware on time.

Qualifications

• Degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Minimum 5 years in mechanical product design, integration, and production support.
• Experience with supplier engagement, factory development, or production ramp-up.
• Experience with CAD design tools.
• Active U.S. government security clearance and U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small to mid-sized team of engineers to design, develop, integrate, and test mechanical hardware.
• Provide mentorship to junior team members by setting a strong example.
• Ensure engineering engagement within the IPT for the Technical Data Package and coordinate with RSE/REA/Designer teams.
• Oversee hardware procurement coordination and manage the material budget within cost constraints.
• Collaborate with functional and program management; provide status updates and participate in IPT, ERB/CCB, R&O, and Critical Chain reviews.
• Assist with the management of mechanical risks and opportunities.
• Support failure investigations as required.
• Present technical and cost/schedule content to team members, peers, management, and government customers.
• Oversee production factory development, production ramp-up, and factory assembly processes with FAI/Prove-in milestones.
• Collaborate with government customers and suppliers.
• Work independently to achieve technical milestones and meet cost and schedule commitments; may include CAM responsibilities.
• On-site work environment with occasional travel, labs, and field work.
