Job summary

Ryan Lawn & Tree is seeking a Turf Trainee to diagnose lawn problems, apply treatments, and deliver consistent results for homeowners across our Missouri route. You’ll learn turf diagnostics, fertilization, aeration, seeding, and service calls while building trusted relationships.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and a passion for the outdoors. This safety-sensitive role offers full-time employment with comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain DOT certification.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a state-issued pesticide applicator license (turfgrass) within 3 months.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• A curious, problem‑solving mindset and a genuine love for the outdoors.
• SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION: This is a safety-sensitive position requiring the operation of vehicles and equipment. All candidates must successfully complete a pre‑employment drug screen, criminal background check, MVR check, and DOT physical (where applicable).

Responsibilities

• Own your route. Manage a route of 400–500 customers, delivering consistent, high-quality service on every visit.
• Learn to diagnose and solve. Identify lawn problems others can't see and prescribe specific solutions that actually work for each individual property.
• Deliver the full package. Complete turf bid requests, fertilization applications, aeration, seeding, and service calls across your customer base.
• Be the expert. Develop a thorough knowledge of turfgrass practices and all other Ryan services to be a true resource for your customers.
• Build relationships. Provide excellent account management and customer service — earning the trust of homeowners who take pride in their outdoor spaces.

• SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION: This is a safety-sensitive position requiring the operation of vehicles and equipment. All candidates must successfully complete a pre‑employment drug screen (including marijuana), criminal background check, MVR check, and DOT physical (where applicable) before starting employment. Candidates must meet all screening requirements as a condition of employment.

• Full time year around employment with a starting compensation of $48,000 - $53,000 depending on experience with bonuses available.
