Job summary

Clallam County Fire District #3 is looking for a Lateral Firefighter/EMT in Washington. Candidates must hold NREMT certification and Firefighter I & II certifications, having worked as a career firefighter in the last three years.

Requirements include valid Washington State Driver's license, passing medical exams, and submitting prior experience and certifications. Review of applications will continue monthly, with deadlines set for July 31, 2026.

Qualifications

  • Must pass NFPA 1582 medical exam and psychological evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in eligibility testing and submit required certifications.
  • Complete a PST Personal History Statement.
  • Meet all disqualifiers based on driving, drug usage, and criminal activity.

Thank you for your interest in Clallam County Fire District 3.

To be considered for our eligibility testing process, ensure that you submit your résumé, and all EMS and fire certifications by July 31, 2026, with reviews continuing monthly thereafter.

Lateral Entry Requirements

Candidates must hold NREMT certification, IFSAC or Pro Board Firefighter I and II certifications, and have been employed as a career firefighter by a comparable department within the past three years, including at least one year as a non-probationary employee.

Drivers license: Valid Washington State Driver's license by the date of hire.

Resume: Submit current resume summarizing education, employment history, fire service and EMS experience, certifications, licenses, specialized training, and qualifications relevant to the position. Identify current and prior agencies, positions, dates of service, and applicable credentials.

Certifications: Upload copies of Firefighter I and II certifications, Hazardous Materials Operations and Awareness certifications if applicable.

Tests and Qualifications
  • Written Examination – not required.
  • Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) – not required (may be required later).
  • PST Personal History Statement – required within 7 days of passing required exam(s).
  • Minimum Age – 18.
  • Citizenship – U.S. citizen or authorized to work in U.S.; no sponsorship.
  • High School Grad / GED – required.
  • Driver's License – Valid Washington State.
  • Felony Convictions as Adult – reviewed on case-by-case basis.
  • English Language – Must read, speak, write.
  • Vision Standards – Must meet LEOFF II.
  • Veterans Preference – points awarded.
  • EMT Certification – must hold NREMT.
  • Firefighter I & II certifications as above.
  • Prior Firefighter experience required.
  • Prior EMT experience required.
  • Ability to pass NFPA 1582 medical exam, psychological evaluation, drug screen, background investigation.
Disqualifiers
  • Driving: Potential – Eligibility based on a qualified driving abstract, subject to district discretion.
  • Drug Usage: Potential – Conviction of unlawful use, sale, manufacture, production or possession of controlled substances or prescription drugs will require individualized assessment.
  • Criminal Activity: Potential – Felony convictions in State or other states that would be felony if committed in this state.
  • Employment: Automatic – Evidence of false or misleading information or cheating during application or testing will lead to disqualification.
  • Potential – Subject to individualized assessment, documented history of physical violence or conviction of domestic violence as defined by 18 USC 921(a)(33)(A).
