Job summary

PUBLIC SAFETY TESTING is seeking a Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic to join Clallam County Fire District #3 in Sequim, Washington. This critical role includes responding to emergencies, supporting public education, and collaborating with various community stakeholders.

Job description

Clallam County Fire District #3 – Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic

Clallam County Fire District 3 (CCFD3) serves a 142‑square‑mile area in and around Sequim, Washington, providing fire suppression, emergency medical, and rescue services, public education, and fire prevention. The Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic position supports this mission, working under the Operations Section Captain and requiring collaboration with EMS providers and the community.

Essential Job Functions
  • Respond to fire and emergency medical alarms.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule.
  • Accurately document activities on proper forms.
  • Assist in training programs for district members and public classes.
  • Participate in fire prevention programs and maintain district equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
  • Attend routine and special training to enhance skills.
  • Maintain physical and mental fitness necessary to perform duties.
  • Project professionalism through appearance, cooperation, punctuality, and enthusiasm.
  • Participate as needed in specialty teams (wildland, technical rescue, rehab, hazardous materials, etc.).
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Shift Captain.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Perform firefighter paramedic functions as described.
  • Maintain a professional and collaborative demeanor while managing workplace conflict and stress.
  • Serve as a role model with reliability and punctuality.
  • Effective verbal and written communication in English.
  • Independently carry out special and general assignments without direct supervision.
  • Build productive relationships with all district members, partner agencies, consultants, and the public.
  • Resolve problems, manage multiple priorities, and use effective decision‑making processes.
  • Use computers and technology for record‑keeping and communication.
  • Remain calm during extreme stress.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Valid Washington State paramedic certification.
  • Background investigation, medical/physical examination, drug screening, and psychological evaluation (as required).
  • Current NREMT certification (for lateral entry).
  • IFSAC or Pro Board Firefighter I and II certifications.
  • At least three years of career firefighter experience at a comparable department, including at least one year as a non‑probationary employee.
  • Ability to pass a medical/physical test, physical ability test, and psychological evaluation.
Physical Demands

The position requires walking or running on uneven or slippery surfaces, lifting up to 75 lbs., wearing protective clothing that can weigh more than 10 lbs., and performing tasks in varied lighting and weather conditions. Candidates must also be able to stand, kneel, and conduct face‑to‑face communication via radio and telephone.

Compensation

Monthly salary $7,585.59 – $10,667.23 plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, disability, MERP, HRA‑VEBA, educational incentives, deferred compensation plan, retirement program, specialty team differentials, sick leave, holiday, biennial cancer and cardiac screening, vacation, and paid training opportunities.
