Job description

DescriptionThe Land Use Manager is responsible for land use activities for Western Timberland’s Willamette Valley Region, based out of the Snow Peak, OR operations office. This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Willamette Valley Region Manager. The land use position is responsible for management of safety, environmental stewardship, local realty transactions, easements, leases, permits, recreational users, neighbor and community relations, and asset security. Coordination with all other forest management operations is paramount (i.e., forestry, engineering, and harvesting, real estate and minerals).Key Functions:Negotiate and administer forest land use agreements (easements, rights of way, cost-share road agreements, leases, and permits).Lead resolution of land use issues including ownership disputes, trespasses, condemnation actions, and damage claims.Manage local land and timber acquisitions, disposals and exchanges.Represent Western Timberlands (WTL) in public forums, community outreach and government issues as needed.Support WTL environmental goals and strategies.Work with diverse community and stakeholder groups on access and sensitive issues.Maintain positive public and neighbor relations.Manage a portion of each tree farm's miscellaneous revenue to generate/increase revenue from minor forest products, telecommunication sites, firewood and miscellaneous permits and leases, as well as managing the recreational access program.Works closely with corporate staff groups (Land Title, Legal, Minerals, Tax and Real Estate Services) to manage local land use issues.Identify and evaluate new revenue opportunities and improve effectiveness of current product lines.Coordinate with other land use employees to standardize and improve land use revenue generating processes across Weyerhaeuser.QualificationsQualifications/Requirements:BS Degree (or higher) in Forestry/Natural Resources or related field, or Business or Legal background and a minimum of five years of experience in business, real estate or forestry related field.Experience negotiating and administering contracts or agreements.Ability to read a map and understand the public land survey system.Experience with easements, rights of way and legal agreements.Capable of multitasking and managing multiple projects at one time.Effective listening, writing and verbal communication skills.Understanding of basic business attributes (creating a budget, track cash flow, etc.).Strong working knowledge of MS office applications and familiarity with ArcGIS and WebMaps.Knowledge of forestry strategy, state regulations regarding forestry activities and land use laws and regulations.Demonstrated knowledge of safety policies and procedures.Strong people and interpersonal skills, with ability to create positive working relationships with neighbors and stakeholders.Current driver’s license is required as work involves driving company vehicles (highway and logging roads).Willing and able to work the hours applicable to the job, which includes occasional evenings and weekendsAbout WeyerhaeuserWe sustainably manage forests and manufacture products that make the world a better place. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay.
