Job summary

McDowell County is seeking a skilled professional to manage property records and GIS data within the Land Records program. The role combines researching deeds and surveys with digital parcel map editing and data entry to maintain accurate ownership information and tax office records.

The position supports public inquiries, assists industry professionals, and collaborates with other departments, ensuring compliance and timely updates to cadastral maps and related systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with experience in real estate or paralegal research and data entry.
• Proficient computer and data-entry skills.
• Ability to drive and work outdoors.
• Strong communication with taxpayers and co-workers.
• Knowledge of land records processes and GIS concepts preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research, interpret and analyze deeds, surveys, and related documents to update ownership data.
• Enter and update land records in data systems and cadastral GIS.
• Assist the public, industry professionals, and county staff with real estate and mapping questions.
• Maintain cadastral geodatabase with land splits, subdivisions, and property adjustments.
• Assign parcel IDs and maintain boundary and acreage information used for tax assessments.
• Support tax exemption/exclusion/deferment programs and verify eligibility.
• Produce maps for public use and act as Plat Review Officer when required.
