Job summary

Bohler’s Richmond office is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern (Land Development) for Summer 2027 to gain hands-on experience on real site design projects and learn the full development process from concept to construction.

You will work with engineers, designers, and project managers, using AutoCAD Civil 3D to assist concept, grading, stormwater, utility, and erosion control plans while building professional skills through mentorship and exposure to client work.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil, Environmental, Biosystems Engineering or related field.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• A self-starter attitude with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D (training provided if not yet proficient).
• Curiosity and motivation to learn within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Interest in civil site design, land development, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Experience the day-to-day operations of a civil engineering and site design firm
• Learn the stages of the land development and site design process
• Enhance your technical skills with hands-on experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D to design concept, grading, stormwater, utility, and erosion control plans
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to coordinate and drive projects forward
• Research zoning ordinances and coordinate with local jurisdictions
• Visit sites to observe field conditions and see the engineering process in action
• Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to design and process improvements
