Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health seeks a Lactation Consultant to provide assessment, intervention and education on breastfeeding to families across the network. You will document teaching, support nursing competencies, and educate physicians about breastfeeding.

Responsibilities include assessing milk transfer, educating families, and coordinating a care plan within the clinical team. Minimum two years OB nursing experience and RN license required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree is required for the role.
• Minimum two years of OB nursing experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficient with Office/Google Suite.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient understanding of breastfeeding signs and milk transfer.
• Demonstrate age-specific competencies in clinical and non-clinical settings.
• Communicate breastfeeding skills to mothers and families; use verbal and written methods.
• Make follow-up calls within one week of discharge to assess breastfeeding outcomes.
• Formulate patient/family-centered goals and a care plan.
• Plan own work within hours; manage time for breastfeeding support.
• Adhere to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
