Job Summary
  • This position provides safe and efficient traffic control and laboring at road construction worksites. Performs manual tasks required to complete the project in observance of safety guidelines. This is a union position.
Main Responsibilities
  • Perform all work in a safe manner, maintaining an excellent safety environment.
  • Participate in daily safety huddles.
  • Set up and take down temporary work zones efficiently.
  • Manage traffic control in and around work zones (flagging) to create a safe environment for traffic and onsite workers.
  • Assist in backing and dumping of tri-axles and milling machines.
  • Shovel asphalt and aggregate materials.
  • Lute/rake asphalt and aggregates.
  • Handle hot liquid asphalt and various materials.
  • Remove old asphalt, concrete, and other materials using jackhammers or cut-off saws.
  • Erect and remove delineating devices such as barrels and cones.
  • Seal end joints.
  • Help fill water tanks on equipment as needed.
  • Compact materials with small hand rollers and vibratory plates.
Education
  • Experience preferred but on-the-job training is available.
Skills
  • Perform tasks efficiently.
  • Build professional relationships to develop excellent teamwork.
  • Must be safety-conscious.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to work long shifts—up to 7 days a week when necessary.
  • Willing to work night shifts when applicable.
  • Capable of long periods of standing, walking, and moving without sitting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in various seasonal climates.
  • Perform tasks involving frequent bending, twisting, and scooping.
  • Must be able to shovel and rake asphalt.
