Job summary

Russell Tobin is partnering with a leading Material Science organization in Cottage Grove, MN to hire a Laboratory Technician. You will perform analytical testing, calibrate instruments, and support quality control while communicating testing status across teams.

Experience with GC and LC, data reporting, and a solid foundation in quality principles are required. The role follows a 12-hour rotating shift and is a 1-year contract, onsite in Cottage Grove.

Qualifications

Russell Tobin is partnering with a leading Material Science organization to identify a Laboratory Technician for an opportunity in Cottage Grove, MN.

Responsibilities

• Perform and report analytical testing of manufactured products, raw materials, in-process samples, and final product samples.
• Calibrate analytical instrumentation and support quality control activities.
• Evaluate new test methods and support measurement systems analyses.
• Prioritize incoming testing and quality control activities in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, chemists, and technicians to communicate testing status, challenges, and out-of-specification results.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instrumentation and elevate issues when needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or higher required; Bachelor's degree in physical sciences, biology, or engineering preferred.
• Experience with laboratory data reporting and analysis systems.
• Proficiency with titrations, gas chromatography (GC), and liquid chromatography (LC), including related sample preparation techniques.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
• Basic understanding of statistical principles relevant to quality control.
• Ability to prioritize multiple testing activities in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
• Ability to work a rotating 12-hour schedule, including weekdays and weekends.

Preferred

• Experience with ICP-OES, FTIR spectroscopy, and/or viscometry/rheology.
• ASQ Quality Technician certification.

Schedule

12-hour rotating shift, 6:00 AM–6:00 PM; includes weekdays and weekends

Based on the current rotation, the schedule follows a pattern similar to:

• Week 1: Work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday
• Week 2: Work Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday
• Week 3: Work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday
• Week 4: Work Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday

This rotation provides several weekdays off each month while ensuring coverage across all days of the week.
