Job summary

St. Francis Medical Center in Los Angeles is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support pre-analytical and clerical tasks under direct supervision.

Responsibilities include specimen collection assistance, patient intake, and maintaining workflow across pathology, microbiology, immunology, hematology, and related departments. Candidates should have HS Diploma, California Phlebotomy Technician license if performing phlebotomy, and BCLS/BLS certifications; prior lab experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Active California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II license is required for phlebotomy.
• Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.
• BLS certification within forty-five days of hire and maintained current.
• Minimum of 1 year clinical laboratory experience performing similar job functions preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow CLIA and California regulations; unlicensed personnel limited to pre-analytical and supportive functions.
• Work under direct supervision of licensed personnel.
• Perform specimen collection and handling; venipuncture only if certified per California law.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage areas and equipment.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting under training.

Education

HS Diploma or equivalent

California Phlebotomy Technician I or II license

BCLS (AHA) certificate

BLS certification within 45 days

Minimum 1 year clinical laboratory experience
