Job summary

St. Francis Medical Center in Los Angeles seeks a Laboratory Assistant to perform clerical duties, specimen handling, and pre-analytical support under supervision.

The role requires phlebotomy certification for venipuncture and strict adherence to CLIA and California regulations. Education includes a high school diploma and phlebotomy licensure, with BLS/BCLS training and 1 year of lab experience preferred.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Active California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II license required for phlebotomy.
• Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire.
• BLS certification within forty-five days of hire and maintained.
• Minimum of 1 year clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical duties including computer entry and filing.
• Greet patients and visitors; maintain professional telephone etiquette.
• Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Perform venipuncture or skin puncture only if certified per California law.
• Process specimens across departments with pre-analytical focus.
• Stock and maintain supplies; ensure storage areas are clean and organized.
• Assist Pathology and other laboratory staff under supervision.
• Support quality control procedures and basic maintenance as trained.
