Job summary

Clean Harbors is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor for our El Dorado, AR facility to supervise the laboratory team and ensure accurate analysis of samples while coordinating with internal and external customers.

The role involves maintaining safety, supervising method development, equipment maintenance and QA/QC adherence, with a schedule from Monday to Friday 7am-3pm (flexible).

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science preferred; lab supervisory experience favored.
• 3–5 years in a laboratory environment preferred.
• 1–3 years supervisory experience in a lab environment preferred.
• Ability to train and motivate team; strong communication across levels.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe working environment in line with OSHA and company protocols.
• Supervise the laboratory team to ensure analysis of samples per procedures.
• Understand, operate, troubleshoot instrumentation and report issues.
• Develop methods when new procedures or instruments are needed.
• Maintain equipment and schedule vendor maintenance.

Job description

We are seeking a technical Laboratory Supervisor at our El Dorado, AR facility, to be responsible for the supervision of the laboratory team to ensure analysis of samples to determine their chemical and physical properties. Communicate with various internal and external customers.

Schedule: M-F 7am-3pm (flexible)

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment that is in compliance with all applicable OSHA regulations as well as all applicable company Health & Safety and Compliance protocols.
• Responsible for the supervision of the laboratory team to ensure analysis of samples following prescribed procedures with the ability to solve complex problems.
• Ability to understand, operate, troubleshooting instrumentation and communicate instrumentation issues to the team
• Works on method development when new procedures or instrumentations are needed
• Maintenance of equipment, including outside vendor scheduling per maintenance contract schedules and suggesting solutions to equipment problems and new/replacement laboratory equipment.
• Completes all paperwork associated with the analysis in a neat and timely fashion.
• Ensures that all meet or exceed all applicable QA/QC guidelines.
• Responsible for meeting analytical testing schedules for required permits and discharges.
• Responsible for supply management in their area of responsibility.
• Responsible for problem solving when results fall outside of mandated specifications.
• Responsible for proper management of waste generated as a result of analytical procedures.
• Implements, maintains, and provides necessary training in accordance with the Chemical Hygiene Plan and other SOP's.
• Supervises the laboratory staff in all processes.
• Trains members of the laboratory, implements and suggests operational improvement strategies, completes all personnel functions for the laboratory staff, including but not limited to interviewing, and performance evaluations, as applicable.
• Other duties as assigned by manager

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Science preferred
• 3-5 years in a laboratory environment preferred
• 1-3 years supervisory experience in a lab environment preferred
• Supervising union employees is a plus!
• Must be able to hold the team accountable, yet encourage and motivate

• Must be able to communicate with all levels of the organization and be an active listener
• Troubleshoot and maintain equipment, including outside vendors scheduling per maintenance contract schedules and suggesting solutions to equipment problems and new/replacement laboratory equipment

• Solid understanding of math, chemistry and testing
• Working knowledge of the laboratory environment
• Proficiency in Windows based applications
