Job summary

Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury, CT is seeking a detail-oriented lab support professional to process patient specimens, assist with registration, and prepare samples for testing in the Laboratory departments. This role emphasizes accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to universal precautions.

The incumbent will enter registrations into HIS, verify requisitions, label specimens, and perform basic tasks such as centrifugation and equipment maintenance while supporting the patient population

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Prior Laboratory experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy skills helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Enter patient registration information into HIS from paper registration form or by direct interview of patient.
• Recognizes incomplete information on Laboratory requisitions and resolves the issue.
• Processes orders for Laboratory testing using established order entry procedures in HIS and/or LIS.
• Prioritizes processing of specimens and performs all aspects of specimen handling, including labeling, accessioning and centrifugation.
• Maintains work areas in a sanitary condition and performs equipment maintenance as scheduled.
• Answer phone inquiries regarding specimen collection and handling and patient test results.
