Job summary

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking a Laboratory / Technical Services Supervisor to provide supervisory and technical oversight for departmental laboratories. You will ensure safe operation of equipment, manage supplies, and supervise staff and students in lab activities.

The role emphasizes safety coordination, equipment maintenance, and collaboration with faculty to support research and teaching activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.
One year of experience with laboratory equipment and materials and knowledge of safety regulations, or
Five years of experience with an Associate’s Degree.

Responsibilities

Ensures established safety standards and procedures are followed.
Establishes guidelines for safe operation of tools and equipment.
Monitors organization and cleanliness of laboratories.
Opens, supervises and closes laboratories as needed.
Trains and supervises students in safe operation of tools and approves training completion.
Maintains and repairs tools and equipment in the laboratory.
Prepares materials and instruments for use in research and teaching labs.
Assists faculty and students with facilities planning and equipment selection.
Manages departmental inventory and purchases as needed.
May prepare and stock student laboratory drawers and document charges for loss or breakage.
Acts as safety officer coordinating hazardous waste collection, storage and disposal.
Trains and supervises laboratory and storeroom aides.
