Job summary

AdventHealth Riverview, FL seeks a Laboratory Support Technician to perform cytopreparatory staining, handle specimen collection, and ensure accurate labeling and processing of patient samples. You will support phlebotomy, safety protocols, and coordination with clinical staff to maintain quality results.

Responsibilities include specimen setup, analysis assistance, and participation in performance improvement initiatives while delivering excellent patient service in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Technical skills related to laboratory procedures and processes.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English with diverse patients and staff.
• Ability to read text and numbers in English and follow protocols.
• Proficiency with computer applications and electronic systems.
• Ability to handle confidential information per regulations.
• Ability to work with hazardous materials and PPE guidelines.
• Reading/writing/speaking English at functional level.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to perform waived testing with reliability and accuracy.
• Phlebotomy skills required.
• Strong customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• May perform cytopreparatory staining and accession surgical cases with anatomy knowledge.
• May set up primary specimen cultures and inoculate petri dishes for bacteria.
• Maintain equipment sanitation and inventory.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and evaluate new procedures.
• Provide resolution to customer service issues and support education of staff.
• Follow safety policies and PPE usage.
• Collect patient information to create accounts and verify ID and insurance.
• May perform blood collection (phlebotomy) for all ages.
• Assist with clerical and receptionist duties to support department operations.
• Perform point of care testing, quality control, troubleshooting, and reporting of results.
• Handle specimen transport and processing, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
