Job summary

Coppin State University is seeking a Labor Relations Manager to ensure legal compliance, foster positive labor relations, participate in negotiations, and resolve workplace conflicts. This role oversees the relationship between the University and its employees and representatives, guiding decisions on CBAs and dispute resolution while balancing organizational goals with employee rights.

The position requires strong leadership, negotiation skills, and knowledge of state and federal labor laws,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, or related.
• 5+ years in HR or labor relations.
• 1–3 years in a supervisory role, preferably in employee and labor relations in a unionized environment.
• Management experience in higher education a plus.

Responsibilities

• Negotiates and administers labor agreements; drafts and reviews contract language and provisions; communicates terms to employees and management.
• Investigates and resolves workplace disputes, grievances, and complaints, often with legal teams or mediators.
• Develops and implements labor relations strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with organizational objectives and compliant with laws.
• Ensures labor contracts and practices adhere to laws; advises management on employment regulations and best practices.
• Fosters positive employer-employee relations, mediates conflicts, and maintains a fair, productive work environment.
• Oversees supervisory duties, budgets, and performance standards.
