Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Downtown Campus in Iowa City is seeking Surgical Technologist I or II to assist with surgical procedures under the direction of staff nurses. You will prepare, operate, and maintain routine and complex equipment, instruments, supplies, and implants, contributing to a community-based model of care at our 194-bed downtown campus.

This part-time role includes days and every third weekend, with merit pay plan and shift differentials.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical and surgical asepsis.
• Knowledge of medical instruments and supplies.
• Ability to scrub surgical procedures in multiple specialties.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Prepares surgical area for patient care and anticipates the needs of the surgical team.
• Serves as primary preceptor for Surgical Technology students, Summer 10 Nursing Interns or new staff.
• Applies knowledge related to emergency situations and surgical procedures in the operating room.
• Maintains sterile field and communicates any aseptic breaches.
