Job summary

University of Southern California Keck Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Assistant/Non-Phlebotomist to provide clerical and technical support to Clinical Laboratory Scientists. You will handle specimen processing, result inquiries and communications with patients and staff.

This role emphasizes adherence to hospital policies, equipment checks, and participation in quality improvement. Requires high school diploma; preferred Medical Assistant training and CPT certification.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Preference for specialized/technical training from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Preference for CPT (CA DPH) certification.

Responsibilities

• Receive and screen specimens according to established guidelines.
• Process, distribute or package specimens (excluding Blood Bank and Anatomic Pathology samples).
• Handle inquiries for lab results, specimen status and general information.
• Communicate and interact professionally with patients, co-workers and guests of the institution.
• Assist in performing and documenting laboratory testing, equipment maintenance and function checks.
• Adhere to established Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures.
• Carry out additional clinical and clerical duties to meet the needs of the Department.
• Maintain professional growth and development; participate in the Department’s Quality Improvement program.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
