Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital in Florida is seeking a PRN Lab Assistant to support the laboratory across pre-analytic and analytic tasks. Responsibilities include processing specimens, entering orders in the LIS, and assisting phlebotomy.

The role requires a high school diploma and basic biology/chemistry knowledge; 0–2 years of experience is preferred. Sterile processing and MS Office proficiency are desirable, with on-call, onsite work in a collaborative, safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; biology/chemistry knowledge preferred.
• Graduate of an approved medical assistant, EMT, or phlebotomy program preferred.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review orders and convert to correct tests in the LIS.
• Obtain, receive, and process specimens prior to testing.
• Perform pre-analytical and analytical tasks per protocols.
• May perform phlebotomy duties as needed.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
• Handle/collect laboratory glassware and prepare specimens for send-out testing.
