Job summary

Akron Children's Laboratory is seeking a PRN Lab Assistant to support multiple lab functions, including order processing in the LIS and specimen handling. The role may involve phlebotomy, glassware handling, and preparation for send-out testing, with emphasis on regulatory compliance.

High school diploma or equivalent is required; healthcare experience is preferred. This position is onsite with variable hours and potential for additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; basic biology and chemistry knowledge preferred.
• Certification: None required.
• Years of relevant experience: 0–2 years preferred.
• Years of supervising experience: None.

Responsibilities

• Reviews orders for tests and converts requests to correct tests in the LIS.
• Obtains, receives, and processes specimens prior to testing.
• Uses sterile handling techniques during specimen handling, accessioning, and processing.
• Performs pre-analytical tasks according to established protocols.
• Performs analytical tasks according to established protocols.
• Prepares specimens for send-out testing as needed.
• Performs phlebotomy duties as required.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
• Collects lab glassware and handles/sterilizes supplies per procedures; operates glassware washer/sterilizer.
• Collects specimens/slides for Histology lab as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.
