The Lab Assistant at Akron Children's Hospital provides support across the laboratory, including ordering and receiving tests in the LIS, performing pre-analytic and analytic procedures, specimen transport, accessioning and processing.

Duties also cover phlebotomy, handling and sterilizing glassware, preparing specimens for send-out testing, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards while coordinating with staff at all levels.

Qualificações

• High school diploma or equivalent required; biology/chemistry knowledge preferred.
• Graduate of an approved medical assistant, EMT, or phlebotomy program preferred.
• 0–2 years of relevant healthcare experience preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Review orders for tests and convert requests in the LIS.
• Obtain and process specimens prior to testing.
• Perform pre-analytical and analytical tasks per protocols.
• Phlebotomy duties as required.
• Prepare specimens for send-out testing.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
• Handle laboratory glassware and sterilization processes.
• Assist Histology during specimen collection as needed.
• Collaborate with all levels of the organization.
