Job summary

University of Florida Health is seeking a Lab PAA/Phlebotomist in Gainesville to collect and process specimens for laboratory analysis and to support accurate patient testing. Responsibilities include venipuncture, preparing slides, handling specimens, and using hospital information systems, with varying hours and shift coverage.

Qualified candidates have phlebotomy training or 6 months experience, a high school diploma, CPR certification, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of phlebotomy training program or 6 months phlebotomy experience.
• Preferred: science AP courses or college-level science studies.
• GPA 3.0 or above preferred.
• Must have computer skills and ability to multitask.
• Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine venipuncture and specimen collection procedures.
• Prepare, process, and store human specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Perform laboratory procedures related to microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, and chemistry.
• Release and place laboratory orders using hospital systems.
• Receive, process, and distribute patient specimens and blood products.
• Perform preanalytical functions, including loading specimens onto analyzers.
• Prepare slides for staining and microscopic examination.
• Prepare and package specimens for transportation to outside laboratories.
• Follow safety protocols to ensure accurate specimen handling.
