Job summary

University of Florida Health in Gainesville is seeking a Lab PAA/Phlebotomist to perform routine venipuncture and prepare specimens for analysis. The role involves handling blood and body fluids, processing orders, and ensuring accurate specimen handling within hospital systems.

The ideal candidate will have phlebotomy training or 6 months of experience, strong patient service skills, and the ability to work across microbiology, hematology, and chemistry testing domains.

Qualifications

• Requires phlebotomy training or 6 months phlebotomy experience.
• Preferred: health-related program at high school level OR AP science courses OR college science studies.
• GPA 3.0 or above preferred.
• Must have basic computer skills and hospital information systems.
• Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures.
• Collect, prepare, process, and store human specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Perform routine laboratory procedures related to microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, and chemistry testing.
• Release and place laboratory orders using hospital systems.
• Receive, process, and distribute patient specimens and blood products.
• Perform preanalytical duties including loading specimens onto analyzers.
• Prepare slides for staining and microscopic examination.
• Prepare and package specimens for transport to reference labs.
• Follow lab procedures and safety protocols for correct specimen handling.
