Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to obtain blood and specimens on outpatient and inpatient units in Providence, RI. You will register patients, confirm identities, document orders, and prepare specimens for testing under supervision of the Laboratory Outreach Services Manager.

Responsibilities include venipuncture, specimen processing, ABN management, and data entry, all while delivering patient- and family-centered care in line with our mission and values.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certificate through NAACLS or internship demonstrating 100 venipunctures.
• In lieu of internship, 6 months phlebotomy experience may be considered.
• In lieu of certification, 5+ years direct phlebotomy experience may be considered.
• Ability to perform venipuncture on adults, children and infants.
• Interpersonal skills to explain procedures and reassure patients.
• Knowledge of aging, development, and cultural patterns in care.

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood and other specimens following procedures.
• Register patients, verify identity, and enter demographics and orders.
• Manage ABN documentation and coding as needed.
• Perform related clerical tasks and file records.
• Schedule venipunctures and prepare collection labels.
• Verify patient preparation and collect samples accordingly.
• Label, wrap, and transport samples while maintaining records.
• Follow universal precautions and hospital policies.
